About Vianesa

I’ve written a wellness book and published more than a dozen articles, essays, and stories in mainstream outlets on a broad range of topics from national security to women’s health.

My wellness expertise has appeared in the Washington Post, Essence, Working Mother, CBS, and other mainstream news outlets. A list of my media appearances is here.

I hold a bachelor of science degree from Grambling State University, a master’s in communication with an emphasis in media from the University of Oklahoma, a certificate in advanced graduate studies in health psychology from Northcentral University, and a master’s in strategic studies from the United States Army War College.

You’re probably wondering why I don’t pick a lane. It’s because over a 25+ year professional career, I don’t have one lane. I have three; I am an Air Force logistician, a former wellness entrepreneur, and former strategic analyst at the Pentagon. I’ve risen to the top of all three fields, thus I have a lot to talk about.

Instead of talking, I’ll write about it, and hope to help several others along the way.

My Air Force career began in logistics where I led women and men since my first assignment. My military career took me all over the world, with deployments throughout the Middle East. For over 20 years I led at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels of war. Because of my work at the Pentagon, my insights on military strategy remain relevant to this day. I publish often on my LinkedIn page for those interested in my personal insights on leadership and command.

Motivated by a desire to start my own business, I left active duty service to start my own wellness business. I earned my nutrition certification from Cornell, then manufactured my own line of energy bars. Halftime Foods became a hit in my town, selling out in gyms and farmer’s markets in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area. I leaned further into business by opening a gym. Unfortunately I was forced to close my businesses due to issues surrounding the COVID pandemic.

I believe that the lessons of business and military leadership led to my philosophy on love. Love for what you do, and love for the people you do it with.

I also believe in helping women and children.

My volunteer work includes:

  • Nutritional program for N Street Village
  • Nutrition assemblies for Fairfax County Schools
  • Meals on Wheels deliveries

I live in Fairfax County, VA with my husband and sons (one in college–go Hokies!). I was born in Los Angeles CA, and spent much of my childhood in Sacramento, CA. I was bit by the entrepreneurial “bug” as a 10 year old Girl Scout where I was awarded for selling the most Girl Scout cookies in my area.
